This is a study, mostly surrounding the motives behind the commitment to local politics, the study is based on a quantitative survey answered by the local politicians in Lerums municipality. The survey consisted of various questions with a possibility to respond with a longer text, resulting in longer answers and explanations. The questions were about what power and influence the local politicians in Lerums municipality, consider themselves to have. This study also reviews the local politicians political history such as, to what extent politics were present during their childhoods, and their commitments to previous associations, organizations or other matters outside their political careers. Since the commitment to local politics in Lerum and Sweden in general, is declining, there are many factors that play a role in this alteration of the ways and approaches to engage in politics. This study also analyzes factors such as individualization in society, social movements and social media. In the matter of what actually drives the local politicians to their political commitment, I can find common denominators, motives and reasons for the commitment. My results show that a vast majority of the local politicians in Lerums municipality are, or have been previously committed to other organizations, associations, or other matters outside their political careers. Another vast majority of the local politicians consider themselves to possess more power and influence than other individuals, due to their political positions.
